After a 10-6 season without a playoff appearance, the New York Jets must aim higher to ensure a spot.

Nonetheless, this year, nine or 10 wins may suffice due to the Denver Broncos starting a second-year quarterback without much experience, the Kansas City Chiefs missing major components on defense and the Cincinnati Bengals losing offensive components.

More from New York Jets

New York can’t worry about the bare minimum to clinch a playoff berth. NFL league offices put together a tough schedule for the Jets to tackle, which means one slip up could cost them a division title or at least an extra game in January.

After a drama-filled offseason with in-house free agents going elsewhere and drawn out contract disputes with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, the Jets still field a talented overall roster.

The decision to keep the passing attack intact while adding one of the best receiving running backs in the game, Matt Forte, bodes well for the offense in 2016.

Defensively, the Jets will likely struggle against receiving tight ends and running backs due to the turnover at linebacker. David Harris returns as the only starter at the position from the previous season.

After a somewhat down year for cornerback Darrelle Revis, the Jets hope to see the same shutdown defender from years past against premier wideouts like A.J. Green and Sammy Watkins in the upcoming season.

We’ll project the winner and the score for each weekly matchup for the 2016 season with a final record.
