The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to a deal with Grevis Vasquez after their offer sheets for Allen Crabbe and Tyler Johnson were matched by their respective teams.

The Brooklyn Nets were delivered a big blow on Sunday night when the two restricted free agents they targeted, Allen Crabbe and Tyler Johnson, were no longer coming to the team. As restricted free agents, their respective teams, the Portland Trail Blazers and Miami Heat, had a chance to match their offer sheets to retain them.

That is exactly what happened, as Crabbe and Johnson will be returning to their original teams after both matched the Nets’ offer sheets. The Nets did not wait long to act though, as they quickly dipped back into the free agent market two replace Crabbe and Johnson.

This time the Nets came away with unrestricted free agent Greivis Vasquez. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the Nets and Vasquez agreed to a one-year deal.

This move came mere hours after the Nets had learned they would be missing out on Crabbe and Johnson. While Vasquez does not have the upside and potential that Crabbe and Johnson possessed, he is a solid addition for a team that was left scrambling without much left on the free agent market.

More from Brooklyn Nets

The 29-year old Vasquez will give the Nets a solid combo guard option, as he can start next to Jeremy Lin at shooting guard or come off the bench as their sixth man. That kind of versatility is nice to have, as Vasquez has proven to be a steady, poised veteran that should bring some valuable experience to a Nets team short on it.

Vasquez began his career with the Memphis Grizzlies but was traded to the New Orleans Hornets after his rookie season. He spent the next two seasons with the Hornets before being traded again, this time to the Sacramento Kings.

Vasquez wouldn’t even last half a season with the Kings, as they traded him away in mid-December to the Toronto Raptors in a package that sent Rudy Gay to Sacramento. He would re-sign with the Raptors, but was traded in the middle of that contract to the Milwaukee Bucks, where he spent last season.

Vasquez had arguably the worst season of his career last year with the Bucks, as he battled injuries throughout; his season was eventually cut short after he underwent surgery on his ankle to remove bone spurs.

As a result, Vasquez was met with a pretty quiet market, as he is recovering from surgery. A one-year deal from the Nets will give him a chance to get his value back up and get back into the free agent market again next season when the salary cap is expected to rise once again.

For his career, Vasquez has averaged nine points, 4.8 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game. The Nets will be the sixth franchise that Vasquez plays for in his career.
