The New York Knicks had one bad quarter against the Miami Heat, and it ended up doing them in. The Knicks were unable to recover from their poor second quarter, when they were outscored by the Heat 26-11. It was the biggest factor in them losing the game by a score of 95-78.

The Knicks starters were able to keep it close throughout the evening when they were on the court, but the second unit came up short. Once they were inserted into the game the first time in the first quarter, things started going downhill and the Heat took advantage.

With the Knicks second unit struggling to make an impact, the Heat were able to set the tone and pace of the game, taking advantage of the Knicks shortcomings. It made for a slow pace, low possession game as the Heat like to grind it out in the halfcourt despite having some athletic players.

The Knicks struggle at times with that sort of pace, especially the second unit that likes to use it’s athleticism to it’s advantage, and it really showed tonight. The Knicks bench was badly outplayed, and had their worst game of the season.

For the Knicks, the loss is the first one of this four-game road trip. It also ended their four-game winning streak and dropping their record to 8-7 on the season and 5-3 on the road. As for the Heat, they have improved to 9-4, ending their seven-game homestand with an impressive 6-1 record.

The Knicks will look to start a new streak on Wednesday when they finish up their four-game road trip against the Detroit Pistons before heading home to host this same Heat team on Friday night. Before we get to that, let’s take a closer look at the outcome from the game tonight.

Check out our takeaways from the Knicks difficult loss to the Heat tonight at the American Airlines Center.
