The New York Jets have seen a lot of change on their first-team offense after Geno Smith was punched in the face.

One of the best moves of the offseason by general manager Mike Maccagnan was to acquire quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick from the Houston Texans. Fitzpatrick hasn’t been a superstar in the NFL, but he is a proven, veteran quarterback that was thought to be a solid option in case Smith struggled.

Since Smith had surgery on his jaw, Fitzpatrick has become the Jets’ new starting quarterback.  Being a starting quarterback in New York comes with a lot of pressure, and that pressure starts in the preseason.

In Week 3 of the preseason against the New York Giants, Fitzpatrick, and the Jets’ first-team offense looked very good. They played an entire half against the Giants, and they executed very nicely.

Fitzpatrick had a very good game in the likely final tune up before the regular season. In the Jets’ win, Fitzpatrick totaled 127 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and went 9-for-14 passing.

In the receiving game, both Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall played very well against the banged up Giants’ secondary. Decker totaled three receptions, 52 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown. Marshall was also a factor despite not finding the end zone, as he totaled three receptions and 33 receiving yards.

Running back Zac Stacy got some time with the first-team and played very well. Stacy would score the second Jets touchdown of the game on a screen pass that the Giants defended very poorly. He also totaled nine carries and 36 rushing yards in a good showing.

Despite Stacy seeing time with the first-team, Chris Ivory looked very good in his short time on the field. Ivory set the tone for the Jets’ offense with some solid runs, as he totaled 38 rushing yards on six carries.

Against a banged up Giants’ defense, the Jets’ offensive line did a very good job protecting Fitzpatrick and making holes for their running backs.

The game against the Giants was a very good showing for the Jets’ first-team offense, as they both ran the ball well and threw the ball well.  For Fitzpatrick, it has to be a huge confidence boost to get a really good game under his belt with the regular season right around the corner. Fitzpatrick and his two main receivers looked like they had a good feel for each other, and that’s a great sign in limited time.
