2015 NFL Draft Slots Determined For New York Giants and New York Jets

The seasons for the New York Giants and New York Jets  ended earlier than fans had hoped, as both teams will be missing the postseason; the fourth consecutive season for the Jets and the third consecutive for the Giants. Both teams will now be preparing for what will be busy offseasons. The first thing fans will take notice of though is where each team will be selecting in the 2015 NFL Draft, as the order is pretty much set in stone now with all the regular season games being completed.

The Jets will be picking sixth overall, which is a bad place to be for a team looking for a skilled offensive player. It is popular opinion that the Jets will be looking to get a quarterback in this year’s draft, and the two highest rated prospects at the position, Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston, both have a high likelihood of being off the board when the Jets come up on the clock.

Another offensive player that scouts believe could be special is Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper. Unfortunately for the Jets, all three could be gone before it is their turn to select. The Jets actually held the fourth pick of the draft heading into Week 17, but a victory over the Miami Dolphins dropped them to the sixth spot.

Could the Jets maneuver their way into the top three via a trade? It will not be easy, but you never know how things will turn out in the draft or offseason until contracts are signed and things are set in stone.

This will be the second time in four seasons that the Jets are selecting in the top 10, with the last occurrence being in 2013 when they selected cornerback Dee Milliner out of Alabama. The last time the Jets had a pick in the top six was 2009 when they selected Mark Sanchez. In 2008 they had the sixth overall pick and busted, selecting defensive end Vernon Gholston. Hopefully, for the Jets’ sake, whoever replaces John Idzik at general manager if he is indeed let go can land better players.

For the Giants, they will be selecting ninth in the 2015 NFL Draft. This is the first time since 2004 that the Giants will be selecting in the top-10 of the draft. That year they selected Phillip Rivers, who never actually played a down for Big Blue, as he was a part of the trade that brought Eli Manning to town. Could the Giants find another impact player of that magnitude this time around?

More than likely the Giants will not be selecting another franchise quarterback, as Manning enjoyed a strong bounce back season under first year offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. The more logical thing to see would be the Giants selecting a lineman on either side of the ball. The Giants need help in the trenches, and adding a young, talented player there will go a long way in turning around their struggles.

In the 2014 NFL Draft, the Giants landed Odell Beckham Jr., who looks like a superstar already. Picking three spots ahead of that in 2015, they will hope to land another impact player to help get this team back into the playoffs and contending for division championships and Super Bowls. It is imperative for the Giants to hit with these high draft picks, as their weak draft classes in recent years is a big reason why the team and roster are in the shape that they currently are.

The top-10 of the draft will look like this: Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders, Washington Redskins, Jets, Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, Giants and St. Louis Rams.
