Yankees Reveal Plan to Prepare Aaron Judge for Opening Day
The MLB regular season is right around the corner with the year slated to start on Mar. 28 for the Bronx Bombers against the Houston Astros.
Right fielder Aaron Judge has been limited throughout spring training but finally got back on the diamond on Mar. 20. He's missed the last nine days with abdominal discomfort but is finally turning the corner. He is expected to be ready for the season opener.
The Yankees have laid out a plan for Judge ahead of the opener. Manager Aaron Boone revealed New York plans to have Judge play on Friday against the Mets, on Saturday against the Phillies, and on Mar. 25 versus the Mets again before the opener on Mar. 28.
Yankees News: Aaron Judge Expected to be Ready for Opener on Mar. 28
After a dominating 12-0 Grapefruit League win on Wednesday over the Pittsburgh Pirates, Judge has made progress.
He said, "I’m feeling good,” Judge said. “Like I’ve been telling you guys, I’m just excited to get back in there. Get a couple of at-bats, a couple of swings and get a couple of plays in the field, and get ready for the next game.”
The 31-year-old hammered a double, drove in a run, scored two runs, and even drew a walk. This a terrific step in the right direction as Judge struggled throughout spring training.
Getting Judge on the diamond is massive for New York. Rolling into the regular season, the Yankees currently have the second-best odds in the AL (+450) to make the World Series, behind the Houston Astros. They will need their stars healthy and available for the season to make a run for it.
