It was recently announced per Bryan Hoch that Jonathan Loaisiga will need season-ending surgery on his torn UCL. While Loaisiga had also stated that it would not be Tommy John surgery, the timeline for recovery is still 10-12 months. Dr. Keith Meister will be performing the procedure on him. This news is a huge blow for the Yankees considering of how it may be the last time we see Loaisiga in pinstripes. He will become a free agent once the 2024 season concludes.

This news also comes after the team had announced on Friday that they were placing Loaisiga on the 60-day injury list, retroactive to April 4th, with a right flexor strain. As part of the move, they also called up Dennis Santana to take his spot on the Major League roster.

Early this afternoon, Yankees manager Aaron Boone told the media, " He's just dealt with things the last years that have added up to this point", per SNY Yankees video.

It is important to know that New York has been struggling already to keep everyone on the team healthy, especially their pitchers. They already have pitchers like Gerrit Cole and Scott Effross sidelined to miss the start of the season. Loaisiga looked like he was going to be the set-up pitcher to take on in late innings for New York.

Unfortunately, the injury story to Loaisiga changed the whole narrative of the Yankees' plan for him this season. This is not the first time New York has dealt with the injury bugs. It has been going on for sometime now.

With the injury blowing news, it may be time for New York to start look into the pitching market once the deadline arrives. The bullpen already looks thin even though they called up a pitcher to take Loaisiga's spot in the majors.

Even with this terrible injury news, New York currently has the best odds in the AL (+400) to make the World Series. They will need their stars healthy and available for the season to make a run for it. Head over to FanDuel Sportsbook to lock in these odds.
