Yankees Aim To Activate Five-Time All-Star Before Next Week
Indeed, it has been a struggle for this Yankees team that has lost multiple key stars to their lineup this season. But they should be getting one of their key players as soon as possible. Designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton could be activated as early as Monday as long as everything goes to plan, according to Aaron Boone.
Getting someone like Stanton back is a huge relief. They could use some much-needed protection for Aaron Judge, who has been doing most of the work along with Juan Soto. Stanton has been on the IL since June 23 with a left hamstring strain. Since his injury went off, the team's offensive woes had begun. In addition to that, the Yankees had one of the worst records in MLB (8-25).
Before his injury took place, Stanton sure looked like he was having a bounce-back season following an awful 2023 campaign. The 34-year-old star launched 18 home runs and drove in 45 runs while having a .794 OPS. His return to the lineup can finally give some confidence to find their stride they have once had early during the season.
This season, Stanton is third in homers for the team with 18. Only Judge and Soto have hit more thanks to their abilities to stay healthy. If the injury never occurred to Stanton, he would've been on top of the leaderboard along with his teammates. No other player on the team has hit more than 10 homers. However, this move shouldn't stop the team from making additions prior to Tuesday's trade deadline. SNY's Andy Martino has reported that the team is actively shopping for help at the third base position as well as the bullpen and rotation.
