Ranking the New York Rangers' Potential First Round Matchups, Worst to Best
1. Philadelphia Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers seemed like a lock for the playoffs before an eight-game losing streak going 2-6-2 over their last ten games. Despite the recent struggles, the Flyers find themselves just one point out of the final wild-card spot with 85 points while the teams in front of them have a game in hand. The Final two games for the Flyers are winnable facing the Devils without Jack Hughes and the Capitals who may be eliminated heading into the final game.
No one expected John Tortorella's group to be in this position heading into the playoffs. The Flyers entered the season with just a 9.1% chance to make the playoffs as the team continues its rebuild.
The Flyers are seemingly finally finding their goaltending with Samuel Ersson and Ivan Fedotov playing well after the team lost Carter Hart as a part of the Hockey Canada scandal. Ersson just helped inch the Flyers closer to the playoffs holding the Rangers to one goal on 25 shots.
This would be the best potential matchup in round one for the New York Rangers. The Flyers have struggled down the end of the season and their young roster lacks significant playoff experience. The team hasn't been explosive on offense all season scoring just 2.86 goals per game. Travis Konecny, Owen Tippett, and Joel Farabee will give the Rangers defense fits but, the Flyers provide the Rangers the best chance to move onto the second round.
