The New York Yankees have been in a skid as of late, winning just four of their last ten games as they cling on to a half-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles. This weekend in a three-game set against the Chicago Cubs, the offense struggled mightily scoring just six runs over the course of three games.

This season was supposed to be the year that Jasson Dominguez broke out for the New York Yankees however, the prized prospect needed Tommy John Surgery at the end of the 2023 season which caused him to miss a massive chunk of this season.

Once Dominguez was healthy however, the Yankees chose to continue to roll with Alex Verdugo as the starting left fielder keeping Dominguez in AAA where he could get consistent at-bats. Keeping Dominguez in the minor leagues has been a topic of constant discussion which Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone have defended heavily.

Less than a week after defending playing Verdugo over Jasson Dominguez, it appears "The Martian" is making his return to the Bronx.

Dominguez now returns and it would seem most likely that Alex Verdugo is going to move into a designated hitting role or a role off of the bench going forward. It's been a small sample size for Dominguez in the big leagues but, across 35 at bats he's recorded eight hits with four home runs, six runs, seven RBIs, and a stolen base.

This season Verdugo has struggled as he's batting just .235 well below his .273 career batting average.

It's about time the Yankees made the right move

This entire season it has felt like Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman have chosen to play the inferior player in a spot because of their veteran status rather than shaking things up. All season, Clay Holmes, Alex Verdugo, and DJ LeMahieu have struggled yet, they were able to stay in their roles. Now we'll finally get a glimpse of what the Yankees outfield could look like long term with Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, and Jasson Dominguez all in the lineup.
