New York Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau is a simple man. He wants what he wants. And one of those things that he can't get enough of is Taj Gibson.

Gibson, 38, who was released by the Knicks earlier in January is returning to New York on a 10-day contract.

Knicks News: Taj Gibson Signs With New York (Again)

Gibson played 10 games with the Knicks earlier this season, averaging 9.7 minutes per contest. At this stage of his career, Gibson can only play limited minutes, most likely as a third-string center. But with the injuries piling up in New York, the Knicks had no choice but going back to a familiar face.

Gibson and Thibodeau worked together in three different teams, the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Knicks. In fact, this is Gibson's third stint with the Knicks, all under Thibodeau.

The 14-year veteran is as needed as ever in New York. Mitchell Robinson is likely out for the season, Julius Randle will miss at least several weeks, and OG Anunoby is dealing with an elbow injury. Isaiah Hartenstein, who has stepped up admirably over the last month, has also been banged up due to the heavy workload.

This created a significant lack of depth in the frontcourt. This is a nightmare for a coach like Thibodeau who prefers to play with a traditional big man who can defend and protect the rim.

Enter Taj Gibson. Always ready to come in and give you solid minutes off the bench.

There is uncertainty surrounding the Knicks about who will be on this roster after the trade deadline. It's unclear whether New York will have a roster spot for Gibson past this 10-day contract. But if they do, Thibs will be thrilled and Gibson will be giving his all out there.

The Knicks have won seven straight and are currently in fourth place in the Eastern Conference. They have the fifth-best odds in the East to make the NBA Finals at +1400.
