Knicks Mock Draft 1.0: New York Addresses Depth Needs in the First Round
25th Overall Pick - Zach Edey - Center
Early in this offseason, the majority of the storylines surrounding the Knicks were centered around the center position. The Knicks reportedly plan on re-signing center Isaiah Hartenstein, however, it appears that the team may have some competition. There are also rumors circulating that the team plans to move on from Mitchell Robinson as it's reported that the Knicks are shopping him in trade conversations.
With this pick, the New York Knicks land a backup center to either Isaiah Hartenstein or Mitchell Robinson. While Zach Edey's elite collegiate production may not fully translate to the NBA, he could certainly be an effective player in the NBA.
While at Purdue, Edey was the most dominant player in college basketball, scoring 25.2 points with 12.2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game in the 2023-24 season.
While it may take Zach Edey some time to adjust to the NBA, he'll have time to do so as he won't be thrust into a starting role. The team will start either Mitchell Robinson or Isaiah Hartenstein at the center position while Jericho Sims can shift into a backup role. In Tom Thibodeau's defense, Edey can become a defensive anchor for the Knicks and has upside the Knicks can't pass on this late in the first round.
