After years of failing to land a superstar, the New York Knicks have finally found their guy. On Friday, they came to an agreement with the Minnesota Timberwolves for a blockbuster trade that would land them Karl-Anthony Towns. New York is sending Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and a first-round via the Detroit Pistons.

This trade is huge for New York. They certainly look like they could challenge the Boston Celtics who recently won the NBA finals back in June.

This was a trade that no one saw coming. No one even predicted that the team would part ways with both Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. Losing a player like Donte is what stings about this trade. Now that he's officially gone, we won't see a reunion with former Villanova players happen.

The trade came with price but in the end, it was all worth it. The Knicks have been nowhere close to the NBA finals since 1999. That year they saw themselves swept by a young San Antonio Spurs team. Swinging big for a huge deal now is what would help them go far in the playoffs especially when they needed a center.

Karl-Anthony Towns, 28, is coming off a good season with the Timberwolves. Last season, he helped Minnesota advance in the playoffs for the second time in the franchise's 35-year history. Even better, Towns helped the team reach the Western Conference finals for the first time in 20 years. He is a solid player who has produced solid numbers while on the floor. In his previous season, he averaged 21.8 points and 8.3 rebounds, while shooting 50% from the field.

Latest Trade Leaves Knicks Fans Hurt

Indeed, DiVincenzo's presence will be very missed. He was such an impactful player that changed the dynamics of last year's team. Knicks fans will miss him making all of those three-pointers off the bench. Certainly, the team won't be the same anymore without him in the lineup.
