Knicks Finally Go All-in by Pulling Off Mikal Bridges Trade
This season, all of the buzz around the New York Knicks was surrounding the feel-good story of the Villanova Knicks. Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo all took over New York, leading the team to the best season in recent history. There was one piece missing, though, as the Brooklyn Nets held Mikal Bridges.
The Knicks have now finally completed their Villanova Knicks roster as they've made a crosstown trade with Brooklyn, sending Bojan Bogdanovic, their first-round picks in 2025, 2027, 2029, and 2031, as well as the Bucks protected 2025 first-round pick, a 2028 first round pick swap, and a second-round pick to the Nets for Mikal Bridges.
The Knicks certainly gave up a ton of draft capital but, this trade also creates a ton of questions surrounding the Knicks offseason. What does the team do with OG Anunoby as they've now seemingly filled his role with Bridges? Does the team now make a trade moving Mitchell Robinson to recoup first round capital?
At the end of the day, you have to be pleased if you're a Knicks fan regardless of how much the team gave up. NY has built an incredible core with Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo and they now likely keep that core together long-term by trading for Bridges. The Knicks accumulated these assets by moving around the NBA Draft and this front office has earned the right to go all-in on a trade.
What's the Ceiling for this Knicks team?
Ideally, the Knicks will open the season with a starting lineup of Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges, Julius Randle, and either Mitchell Robinson or Isaiah Hartenstein with Donte DiVincenzo coming off the bench.
The Knicks roster if they're able to bring back Hartenstein and Anunoby will be the NBA's best defensive lineup and a roster deep enough to win the East. The Knicks now have some serious pressure to perform with this lineup and we'll need to wait and see if they're good enough to win the East.
