Knicks Add Major Backcourt Help in Projected Trade Ahead of Deadline
By Joe Summers
The Knicks have been busy, pulling off a stunning trade to acquire OG Anunoby in exchange for RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickly, and at least one projected traded indicates New York might not be finished just yet.
Bleacher Report suggests another big move could be coming, with the Knicks acquiring proven veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon in a trade with the Trail Blazers.
Could Brogdon be the missing piece for a potential deep playoff run? Let's go through the trade suggestion and what adding Brogdon would mean for New York's Finals chances.
Knicks Trade Rumors: Team Adds Malcolm Brogdon in Projected Move
Brogdon is a reliable, proven veteran rotation player with stints in MIlwaukee, Indiana and Boston prior to Portland.
He joined the 50-40-90 club in 2018-19, showcasing the kind of efficient scoring that this Knicks team desperately needs. If Jalen Brunson or Julius Randle aren't hitting shots, it's hard to imagine this current iteration scoring much.
From Bleacher Report, "the Knicks lost both backcourt depth and shot-creation in the Anunoby deal, but they'd strengthen both areas in this swap. Brogdon could fit with any of their guards, since he can handle either backcourt spot on both ends, and he's an offensive asset on or off the ball."
You could always use more steady veterans, especially in the playoffs. Evan Fournier is a lost cause at this point anyway, so losing him wouldn't hurt the roster. Trading away a first-round pick is the cost of doing business and this is a team built to win now.
We'll see if the Knicks make any moves ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline, though this looks like an option the organization needs to at least consider.
