Jets Unsure Why Key Offseason Addition is Missing Workouts
The New York Jets have been undergoing spring workouts with excitement building for the 2024 season. The Jets have had a majority of their team available including most of the team's free agent signings and draft picks. New York, however, has yet to see Haason Reddick suit up.
The situation gets weirder as Reddick has had no communication with Robert Saleh about why he's not with the team according to Rich Cimini. When asked by the media why Reddick wasn't at camp, Saleh told them that he had no clue why Reddick is skipping workouts.
The Jets made a risky move in trading for Haason Reddick, as he was in a contract dispute with the Eagles, and New York has given him no resolution to his deal. Reddick is currently in the final year of his extension with a $14.5 million salary for 2024 and wants an extension.
Every day that Reddick is absent only hurts the Jets as he's expected to be a key piece in replacing Bryce Huff. Reddick also needs to learn and adjust to a new defensive system, so he'll likely be far behind when he finally reports to training camp.
The holdout looks bad on Joe Douglas, who could easily find himself fired after this season if the Jets don't perform. Often times, when trading for a player looking for an extension the team often resolves this issue right away as the Giants did with Brian Burns.
Will the Jets resolve this contract issue soon?
The main question Jets fans will now be asking is when will this contract dispute end so Reddick gets to camp? If the Jets were looking to and willing to extend Reddick then we likely would have seen the sides strike a deal already, which makes this situation puzzling.
