It's been a wasted season for the Jets, brought on by stunning inaction from the front office following Aaron Rodgers' catastrophic injury.

The organization deserves a lot of blame for this lost year and the team has already begun cleaning house. We'll see a lot of changes in the coming months as the franchise looks to build for 2024, and one player Rodgers specifically wanted will not be part of the new iteration.

Dalvin Cook is being released, giving the former standout running back a chance to join a contending team for the playoffs.

Jets News: RB Dalvin Cook Released

Cook joined the team in the offseason with dreams of hoisting a Lombardi Trophy, but it quickly became clear the former Viking didn't have much juice left.

After four straight seasons with over 1,000 rushing yards in Minnesota, Cook will finish 2023 with 67 carries for a career-low 214 yards and no TDs. He added 15 catches for 78 yards, though by any measure, this was not the season anyone hoped for.

The Jets face the Patriots to conclude this year before facing massive questions in the offseason. There was no real path for Cook to return next season, so at least the organization is doing him a solid by letting him join a contender.

New York will charge forward with Breece Hall as the feature back, as it should have all along. Now, the real questions begin and we'll see what direction Joe Douglas takes the team.
