Jets Re-Sign Key Specialist Right Before Free Agency Begins
NFL free agency is set to kick off this week, with the legal tampering period beginning on Mar. 11 at Noon ET. There will be a flurry of pickups around the league and fans can expect the New York Jets to be active in that department.
Before things get officially started, the Jets retained a key member of their special teams. Per NFL Network Tom Pelissero, New York is re-signing kicker Greg Zuerlein to a two-year, $8.4 million deal.
Jets News: Greg Zuerlein Is Heading Back to New York
New York needed to make sure they brought back the 36-year-old. Zuerlein has one of the strongest legs in the league but also has pinpoint accuracy.
In 2023, Zuerlein was tied for second in the NFL in field-goal made (35) and made 92.1% of his field-goal attempts. He also went 13/14 on kicks from 40-49 yards and 5/6 on kicks from 50-59 yards away.
Having a valuable kicker goes a long way in a 17-week NFL season. Furthermore, it looks like New York got a bargain on the new deal. It's only the 11th most AAV among kickers.
The Jets still need to ace their offseason to improve their odds for next season. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jets are +280 underdogs to win the AFC East in 2024. If you want to take advantage of these odds, head over to FanDuel Sportsbook and claim your sign-up bonus.
