The New York Jets are looking to rejuvenate a sluggish offense that was on the field in 2023. They have begun to look around the offensive staff and may be making some changes.

According to CBS Sports NFL Insider Josina Anderson, the New York Jets are close to adding Panthers wide receiver coach Shawn Jefferson to the staff. He would join the Jets in the same position.

The Jets seemed to have eyed Jefferson's services for a while now and wanted to lock down a deal. It is a strange situation for New York because Zach Azzanni is still under contract as the team's receiver coach.

It looks like the Jets may be ready to move on from Azzanni, as they've also interviewed Tennessee's Rob Moore for the WRs coach.

If Jefferson and Gang Green agreed to terms, it would be a return to Florham Park for the 54-year-old coach. Jefferson was in the same position for the Jets from 2019-2020. After New York fired head coach Adam Gase and hired Robert Saleh, Jefferson wasn't retained by the Jets.

He joined the Arizona Cardinals from 2021-22 before heading over to the Carolina Panthers in 2023.

Under Jefferson's coaching, Carolina's Adam Thielen had a bounce-back season at the age of 33. Thielen reeled in 103 receptions and 1,014 receiving yards. Those were his highest totals since 2020.

Jefferson has 18 years of experience as a coach on top of 13 years as a player. The Jets are looking to revamp their offensive staff heading into the 2024 season.
