Jets' Former First-Round Pick Will Reportedly Change Positions in 2024
The New York Jets head into the offseason with a bunch of holes along their offensive line. They have released guard Laken Tomlinson, voided the contract of Duane Brown, and have both Mekhi Becton and Connor McGovern hitting the open market.
New York currently only has Alijah Vera-Tucker and Joe Tippmann as bonafide starters along the offensive line. Finding three starting offensive linemen in one offseason is a tough task but the Jets have a plan to fortify that unit.
Brian Costello of the NY Post believes Vera-Tucker is going to make a switch to offensive tackle permanently.
In an interview with Paul "Boy Green" Esden Jr., Costello said, " I think AVT is going to be a tackle. I think they are going to sign two guards and then draft a tackle. The guard market is just better."
Since being drafted by the Jets in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Vera-Tucker has been a Swiss army knife along the offensive line. He has experience playing at both guard and tackle for this team.
Unfortunately for Vera-Tucker, he's suffered a torn tricep and torn Achilles in back-to-back years so there are some questions regarding his health. But when he's on the field, the 24-year-old is an absolute beast.
Over the past two seasons, Vera-Tucker had made five starts at right guard, six at right tackle, and one at left tackle. Now going into 2024, it looks like he is going to stick to one spot and offensive tackle will likely be the position.
