Jets 7-Round Mock Draft: New York Nabs Top O-Lineman for 2024
253rd Overall Pick: Tory Taylor - Punter - Iowa
It's an absolute anomaly for a punter to be the best player on a winning team in college but that was the case for Iowa with Tory Taylor. The Jets have had turnover at the punter position after parting ways with Braden Mann before bringing in veteran Thomas Morstead.
Taylor had an incredible career twice being named the Big Ten punter of the year, a unanimous All-American, and the Ray Guy award winner. Taylor punted 93 times for Iowa in 2023 for an average of 48.2 yards per punt with a long of 67 yards.
256th Overall Pick: Jaylen Key - Safety - Alabama
Ashtyn Davis will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and given positional value, it wouldn't be smart for the Jets front office to re-sign him on a long-term deal. The Jets should use a late pick on a safety to play behind Tony Adams and Jordan Whitehead and Key may be the right fit.
He was a great run defender at Alabama recording 60 tackles on a loaded defense. Key will need to improve in pass coverage to play every down in the NFL but, he could develop into a nice piece for the New York Jets.
New York Jets: Offense needs to take flight in 2024 draft
The entire Jets season will depend on if Aaron Rodgers stays healthy in 2024. We saw the New York offense look like it didn't even belong on the same field as most teams once Rodgers went down and that can't happen again.
The Jets will need to add a tackle to protect Rodgers and replace Mekhi Becton. Hopefully, that tackle will become a franchise cornerstone. After an OT, the Jets are just looking for plug-and-play talent that can show the upside of playing as soon as year one.
