After losing Saquon Barkley to the division rival Eagles earlier in the day the Giants have signed their replacement at running back in Devin Singletary. The Giants are inking the former Texans and Bills running back to a three-year deal worth $16.5 million with an additional $3 million in incentives.

It comes as no surprise that the Giants looked to Singletary who has familiarity playing in Brian Daboll's offense after spending 2019-2022 with the Buffalo Bills.

The 2023 season was another solid year for Singletary, playing 17 games while rushing for 898 yards and four touchdowns and adding 193 yards through the air. The biggest upside of Singletary over Barkley is his availability, as he's suited up in 16 or more games every season since his rookie year.

The signing of Singletary long-term makes more sense for the team due to the injury history of Singletary compared to Barkley. The former Texan hasn't had any significant surgeries while spending a majority of his career in a rotation taking less hits than some of the bigger names on the free agency market.

The offensive line that Singletary gets to rush behind will be much improved heading into 2024 with Andrew Thomas and Evan Neal returning to full health, John Michael Schmitz improving after his rookie year, and the signing of Jon Runyan Jr. from the Packers.

The team is clearly headed into a new direction looking to find cost-friendly players to fit into the team with hopes of heading back to the playoffs after a one-season hiatus. The team will have lost Xavier McKinney and Saquon Barkley but, the additions made in free agency and the draft will have the potential of providing the team a major boost.
