Giants Sign Free Agent Quarterback Shortly After Release
The New York Giants have made an intriguing signing bringing in Nathan Rourke off of waivers after he was released by the New England Patriots. The Giants will now have four quarterbacks as they head into training camp with Rourke likely battling with Tommy DeVito for the final roster spot at quarterback.
The 25-year-old has an interesting career path leading to him ending up with the New York Giants. Rourke spent three years playing for the Ohio Bobcats in college winning the Jon Cornish Trophy given to the top Canadian Football player in college. He was then drafted by the BC Lions in 2020 but, due to the CFL closing down due to COVID-19 he tried out for the Giants as a wide receiver.
In 2023, Rourke finally got his chance in the NFL signing a three-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He never got a chance to play for the team and was released before spending the end of the season with the Patriots.
The Giants likely won't have a role for Rourke as a starter as they'll turn to Daniel Jones and Drew Lock but, if Rourke can beat out Tommy DeVito he'll have a chance incase injuries emerge like in 2023.
New York Giants may have a camp battle
The Giants had something of a fairy tale story as Tommy DeVito became the team's starter, exciting Giants fans for the first time all season. The team however, has nothing committed to either quarterback meaning whoever wins out in training camp will earn the roster spot. Given Tommy DeVito's game experience, he'll have the upper hand but competition won't be bad for either player.
