Giants Legend Has Brutal Takedown of New York's Roster
The New York Giants fans have had enough of losing after a frustrating 2023 season, which has carried over into 2024.
After the Giants' disappointing 28-6 Week 1 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, fans are already ready to move on from quarterback Daniel Jones and several other players underperforming on the team's current roster, and it seems like they weren't the only ones who felt that way.
Giants legends Lawrence Taylor and Carl Banks III were two of many former players in attendance who were honored before the game in celebration of the franchise's 100th season kicking off on Sunday. It was embarrassing for the Giants to perform poorly with so many Big Blue alums and some of the greatest players in franchise history watching from the stands.
Banks, alongside co-host Bob Papa, revealed on his "Bleav in Giants" podcast that LT was ready to suit up for the G-Men and throw the pads on. Banks told Papa that the Pro Football Hall of Famer never really comments on the games because he doesn't watch many of them. Still, he believed that if he gathered 22 of their former teammates together at their current ages, they could play better than the current Giants roster and defeat the Vikings, and the sad part is he's probably not wrong.
"Carl, I could pick 22 of us right now and go out and play better than these guys. We’d win this game.’ And the youngest guy in that, like, was probably 50 years old."
- Lawrence Taylor
Taylor was recently voted the best Giants player on their Top 100 list. The list was voted on by a committee of award-winning journalists and NFL and Pro Football Hall of Fame executives, including Papa. Banks was voted as the seventeenth-best player on that list. Taylor and Banks were members of the Big Blue Wrecking Crew, the Giants defense in the 1980s that won two Super Bowls and three NFC East titles together.
While the Giants' current defense has some elite pass rushers like Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Dexter Lawrence II, they did not show up on Sunday against the Vikings. With a demanding schedule coming up, they could use players like Taylor and Banks in their prime to provide a significant boost.
Let's hope Taylor's message sparks the Giants to play better with the Commanders up next on their schedule.
