The biggest offseason storyline for the New York Giants was how the team let franchise mainstay Saquon Barkley leave in free agency. The contract saga went on forever with the Giants franchise tagging Barkley last off-season rather than extending him this offseason.

The Eagles signed the star running back to a three-year deal worth $37.75 million in free agency. The Giants reasoned that the team didn’t want to allocate that much money to a running back which is fine.

That was until Josh Jacobs shared the intel that the Giants offered him more money than any other team this offseason.

Schoen’s reasoning for not paying Barkley to allocate money elsewhere goes out the window as he offered Jacobs a higher average annual value and a longer contract than he offered Barkley.

Heading into the season, Schoen’s seat has to be hotter than many expect. John Mara made it clear that he wasn’t happy with letting Barkley walk in free agency and if he has a great season things will get tougher on Schoen.

A few of the moves Schoen made this offseason haven’t made sense. Most recently, the Giants brought back Adoree' Jackson long after training camp ended, which was a very odd move. Now the Giants' second cornerback will enter the season with no camp or preseason reps under his belt in a new defense.

Nonetheless, it’s still early into Schoen’s tenure but, he needs to start seeing success beginning this season. Many of Schoen’s moves haven’t panned out namely the Giants' success in the draft. If this season is a disaster, don’t be surprised if the Giants again make a regime change.
