The countdown to game day for Giants fans is slowly coming to an end. Sunday afternoon's season opener will be a historic event kicking off the franchise's 100th season, but a unique opportunity for the team awaits to get off to a quick start.

There is one player on the Giants who has not been talked about during training camp due to the attention on 2024 first-rounder Malik Nabers and that is Darius Slayton. Ever since he was drafted in 2019, Slayton has quietly put together a solid career with Big Blue. In four out of the five seasons with the Giants, he has reached 724 receiving yards or more, per Pro Football Reference.

Why is Slayton going to have a massive game against the Vikings? For starters, he has been one of Daniel Jones' favorite targets throughout his career, but Slayton has had phenomenal performances against Minnesota. In three career games, he has 12 receptions for 229 yards with one touchdown, which includes an 88-yard performance in the 2022 playoff win.

The Giants' offense in terms of game plan remains a mystery, but it can be assumed that Nabers will receive early targets. The Vikings' newly acquired veteran defensive back Stephon Gilmore will be tasked with guarding the Giants rookie standout, which leaves Slayton in a great position to do damage on the opposite side against a weak Minnesota secondary.

It is going to be crucial for Daniel Jones to share the wealth, given the adjustments Minnesota will make on Nabers. Jones has shown to be able to do just that against the Vikings, putting Darius Slayton in a prime position to have a big day come Sunday.
