Giants 7-Round Mock Draft: Top WR Lands in NY
107th Overall Pick - Theo Johnson - Tight end
The Giants still have no answer on the future of Darren Waller, who's told the media he's unsure if he'll play in 2024. Regardless of Waller's decision, at his age the Giants can't depend on Waller to play a full season with his injury history. The Giants added Jack Stoll and Chris Manhertz as blocking tight ends, but they'll need too add a receiving threat in the draft.
Here the Giants take a tight end from Penn State a school with recent success sending Pat Freiermuth and Mike Gesicki to the NFL. Theo Johnson didn't get the production you'd expect as the Penn State offense was run-heavy in 2023. Johnson finished the year with just 34 catches for 341 yards and 7 touchdowns.
The athleticism paired with the blocking ability of Johnson make him one of the most intriguing prospects at the position. At 6"6 and 264 pounds, the tight end ran a 4.58 forty-yard dash, faster than potential first-round receiver Keon Coleman.
At worst Johnson becomes a reliable blocker and a check down option for Daniel Jones while his upside is a top-ten tight end in the NFL.
166th Overall Pick - Joe Milton III - Quarterback
After Brian Daboll's success with Tommy DeVito, it's hard to wonder what he could do with a more physically talented quarterback. That's why selecting Joe Milton as a late round developmental quarterback would be intriguing for the Giants.
If not for inconsistent play, Milton's physical traits may have seen him land in the first round of the draft. The Volunteers quarterback earned the nickname "Bazooka Joe" for a reason with one of the more talented arms we've ever seen at the college level.
Where Milton gets himself in trouble is reading a defense often forcing passes to the wrong receiver. Milton also needs to work on his touch as at times he can over fire his receivers in the quick game.
Milton would truly have all the time in the world to develop in 2024 sitting behind Daniel Jones and Drew Lock. The team could look to play Milton in the back half of the season if the year is lost to see if they can prevent spending what will likely be a top-ten pick on a quarterback.
183rd Overall Pick - Jalen Coker - Wide Receiver
Despite the Giants' plans to land a top-tier playmaker early in the draft, the team may still need to add receivers to a room lacking talent. The team has turned to depth signings in Isaiah McKenzie and Isaiah Hodgins as potential players to earn a spot on the roster in camp, but neither have a high ceiling.
The best receiver you haven't heard of in this draft class is Jalen Coker a receiver from Holy Cross. The receiver is coming off of his best season with 59 catches, for 1,035 yards, and 15 touchdowns.
Coker has shown it all at Holy Cross with reliable hands, contested catch ability, and an incredible ability to track the football. The 6"3 receiver could develop into a reliable option for Daniel Jones while potentially becoming a bargain for the Giants long-term.
