Talk about landing a prospect with first-round talents in the early half of the third round to strengthen an amazing start for the Giants. They add to it by drafting stud defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat out of Texas to join forces with All-Pro run stuffer Dexter Lawrence.

One of two defensive behemoths expected to come out of the Longhorns program this year, Sweat is an interior disrupter who racked up a career-high 31 pressures in 2023, including two sacks and six batted passes. His total numbers finished at 69 pressures, five sacks, 55 hurries and 17 batted passes, meaning he is a player that’s bound to find his way to the ball carrier and cause damage.

Sweat will help Lawrence fill the holes in the A- and B-gaps where he played a majority of his collegiate snaps. The pick will help bolster the Giants’ front seven that figures to be the enforcers on the defensive side of the ball for Shane Bowen, who doesn’t like to send a boatload of blitzes from the second and third levels a la his predecessor in Wink Martindale.

The pressure is going to come up front and adding Sweat to the fold makes the Giants’ defense that much scarier with a solid long-term piece.
