The New York Giants' former head coach Joe Judge is once again coaching after the Patriots' staff turnover with Bill Belichick's firing. Joe Judge is headed back to the SEC and will be joining Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss staff as a Senior Analyst. The role won't see Judge as an on-field assistant unless the NCAA rule change is approved allowing for unlimited assistants.

The move comes as a shock as Joe Judge played college football for Mississippi State before becoming a graduate assistant at State, now flipping sides in one of the most heated rivalries in all of sports. Judge was also offered the head coaching job for the Bulldogs in 2019 turning it down in favor of the Giants job.

This marks Judge's third job in college football, after serving as Birmingham Southern's linebackers coach and special teams coordinator before heading to Alabama to be Nick Saban's special teams assistant. Judge has now returned to college for the first time since 2011 after a solid run in the NFL.

In the end, it appears to be a career reset for a coach who once was on a promising path to becoming an NFL mainstay. You can easily argue that Judge got the raw end of the deal as he was fired partially because of Daniel Jones' injury history and inheriting a quarterback that wasn't his pick and being paired with a lame-duck general manager.

This is most likely a one-year move for Judge as he'll likely return to the NFL as a special teams coordinator within a year. Judge has plenty of connections through coaching for Bill Belichick and Nick Saban that he'll likely get a job when coaches turn over in the NFL next season. In the end, you have to feel for Judge as he took a bad job at the time with the Giants and ultimately paid the price for unmanageable quarterback play.
