The New York Jets have taken a hit on the opening day of free agency as their top pass rusher Bryce Huff agreed to a three-year $51.5 million dollar deal with the Eagles.

Jets News: Bryce Huff Posts Emotional Goodbye to Fans

Huff was an incredible find for the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Memphis signing with the Jets in 2020. Huff totaled 17.5 sacks in his four seasons with 40 solo tackles and a forced fumble.

There couldn't have been a better time for Huff to break out prior to his first true free agency with a ten-sack season in 2023 adding 29 tackles and 21 quarterback hits. The team will now look to add edge rush help after losing its most productive rusher from 2023.

The departure of Huff will lead to increased roles for some of the Jets' younger edge rushers in 2024. Jermain Johnson is coming off of a great season where he recorded 7.5 sacks with a forced fumble, an interception, and a touchdown. 2023 first-round pick Will McDonald IV will see a massive jump in playing time after recording just three sacks last season.

The Jets haven't made any moves of significance yet despite having about $20 million in cap space to make a move with. The Jets have significant holes on the offensive line while needing playmakers at receiver to pair with Garrett Wilson.

If the Jets plan on competing in 2024 with Aaron Rodgers, they will need to make a massive swing either via trade or in free agency. The weapons on offense aren't good enough to seriously compete with holes at receiver and tight end.

On defense, the group now lacks a true number-one pass rusher after losing Bryce Huff. The defensive unit also needs to add depth on the interior as well as a safety with Jordan Whitehead hitting free agency.
