It's that time of the year again for football fans. Free agency is right around the corner and fans are excited at the potential moves their teams are going to make to improve the roster for the 2024 campaign.

The Jets are sitting on $27 million in cap space and there are clear holes at wide receiver, offensive line, and backup QB but one sneaky need is at safety.

New York voided Jordan Whitehead's contract, making him an unrestricted free agent. Ashtyn Davis and Chuck Clark are also scheduled to hit the open market, leaving Tony Adams as the only safety on the roster.

On Mar. 7, a surprising player was released. The Denver Broncos let go of safety Justin Simmons after eight seasons with the team.

Jets Rumors: Simmons Is An Intriguing Option for the Jets to Consider

Simmons is a rangy and instinctive defender on the backend. The 30-year-old has a nose for generating takeaways while being a willing tackler in the run game. In his eight-year career, Simmons registered 603 total tackles, 64 pass deflections, and 30 interceptions, including four-plus picks in four of the past five seasons.

Simmons has made the two Pro Bowls and is a four-time Second-Team All-Pro selection. In 2023, the Boston College product finished with a 67.9 PFF grade. If New York decided to snag Simmons, he would immediately improve that unit and raise the floor of an already stacked defense.

After a disappointing campaign in 2023, the Jets need ace their offseason to improve their odds for next season.
