Aaron Judge Makes History With Milestone Home Run
It's safe to say we're witnessing greatness. Aaron Judge has had a historic career, and the New York Yankees are beyond lucky to have him as their 16th captain. Well, No. 99 continues to break records and reach milestones, which has set him up for a spot in Monument Park someday and even a future trip to Cooperstown as Judge is well on his way.
We knew Judge was one of the best hitters on the planet, and in the game when he broke the American League single-season record with 62 home runs. The record was previously held by former Yankees outfielder Roger Maris, who hit 61 home runs in 1961. This year, Judge has 43 dingers and is assembling another MVP-caliber season.
The Yankees captain crushed his 300th career home run on Wednesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field to help the Bronx Bombers win the rubber match of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox. The historic blast came in the top of the eighth inning on a 3-0 sinker delivered by White Sox right-hander Chad Kuhl, who previously intentionally walked Juan Soto to face Judge. I guess you could say Judge took that personally.
Not only did Judge reach 300 career home runs, but he's the fastest to reach the milestone and the first to do it in less than 1,000 games and 3,500 at-bats. It took Judge just 955 games and 3,431 to hit 300 home runs, which breaks the previous record holder, Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner, who did it in 1,087 games and 3,883. That means No. 99 reached that milestone faster than Kiner by 132 games and 452 at-bats.
Just when you thought there were enough comparisons to some of the game's greatest players of all time and stats that prove Judge is one of the best hitters we've ever seen, there's more. Judge joined Mark McGwire as the second player in MLB history to hit 300 career home runs before 1,000 hits. Judge also became the 17th player to hit their 300th career homer as a Yankee, joining a list that includes Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, and Mickey Mantle.
