RB Dante "Turbo" Miller

After Devin Singletary takes his throne atop the Giants' running backs room, New York seems headed towards placing rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Eric Gray behind him as the second and third ball carriers in a group that has big shoes to fill from Saquon Barkley’s departure.

At the same time, most people believe they really like Dante Miller—who they’ve been calling “Turbo” throughout the preseason—which brings up an interesting scenario for the undrafted player out of South Carolina.

Miller became a quick fan favorite for his toughness running in the trenches and flashy speed once he found a hole in the defense to burst through. In the preseason opener with the Lions, he led the Giants with 12 carries for 63 yards and an average of 5.3 yards, setting the scene for a potential RB3 competition with Gray who was looking for a bigger role in the backfield with Barkley gone.

Since that game, Miller has remained hidden from the eyes of the league and it’s not for an injury reason. He didn’t participate in the second game with the Houston Texans and then was shown 14 times against the New York Jets on Saturday, a sign the Giants could have plans for retaining Miller in a practice squad fashion.

If the Giants were to overplay and then cut Miller, there is a chance that another team would see his tape and snag him off the waiver wire before New York can clear him for the practice squad. Therefore, Schoen and Daboll likely elected to ration his reps in the last couple of weeks with the hopes that they will slice the youngster into the cupboard to be the fourth running back in case injuries occur during the regular season.

Turbo has certainly become a favorite both in and out of the Giants' locker room and has an upside if he continues to develop his game. He will be cut by Tuesday, but don’t be surprised if he makes it to the team’s practice squad.
