G Marcus McKethan

The Giants took a fifth-round flier on Marcus McKethan back in 2022 to see if he could provide lasting depth at the guard position. That hasn’t been the case for the former Tar Heel product who will get released in favor of more healthy, prosperous talent along the offensive line.

Since being drafted 173rd overall by the team, McKethan has appeared in 16 games for New York and started in just five of them. Last season, he saw 378 total snaps at both the left and right guard positions, but mostly held down the latter side, and allowed 17 total pressures including two sacks and five quarterback hits.

Amongst a carousel of an offensive line; McKethan was often thrown to the wolves with very little positive results. He posted a pass-blocking grade below 66.3 in seven of his nine contests last fall and was just a pushover for the top rushing talent across the league. His run prowess wasn’t much better with a meager 53.9 rating at the end of the 2023 season.

None of these issues have had much of a chance to improve themselves in camp or the preseason, as McKethan has been battling an undisclosed injury throughout most of the summer. He only appeared in 34 snaps between the first two games with Detroit and Houston, where his pass blocking was okay but the Giants don’t have a big enough sample size to trust him for even reserve duties.

With a bunch of swing players like Aaron Stinnie, Austin Schlottmann, Joshua Ezeudu and Evan Neal expected to make the roster, McKethan will be added to the growing list of offensive lineman failures in the Giants' recent draft history.
