WR Isaiah Hodgins

The battle between wide receivers Isaiah Hodgins and Isaiah McKenzie has been one of the best-watched duels of the Giants preseason and they might have a tough decision to make here with letting the former walk on Tuesday.

Hodgins, the former undrafted free agent out of Oregon State, rose to stardom for his contributions to the team’s postseason run in 2022. He was Daniel Jones’s top target in the thrilling road win against Minnesota, compiling over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown that put his name on the map.

However, his development has been as steady since that glorious performance two years ago. In 2023, he went back to being nearly nonexistent in the Giants passing operation, securing just 21 catches for 230 yards and three scores which finished fourth among the position group at the end of the dismal 6-11 campaign.

With the Giants guaranteed to hold 6-7 pass catchers and about five of them being solidified already, Hodgins is likely to see his potential spot be handed over to Allen Robinson II, who has had a nice preseason and whom New York likes for his veteran presence and fallback potential in the slot or outside. They will likely keep two spots reserved for McKenzie, who will be the team’s punt returner this season, and Miles Boykin to fill out duties in that regard.

It’s a tough pill to swallow for a guy who has become a fan favorite, but his growth has just slowed down too much to make an impact on the offense with such a talented unit. Hodgins can definitely contribute to someone’s receiving room, it just won’t be with the Giants any longer.
