5 Giants on Thin Ice Following 2024 NFL Draft

4. Darnay Holmes
The Giants used Day 2 of the draft to address holes in the secondary. Minnesota safety Tyler Nubin was selected in Round 2 and Kentucky cornerback Andru Phillips in Round 3. For veteran cornerback Darnay Holmes, that third-round pick is particularly concerning.
Phillips was drafted to be the team's nickel cornerback, which was Holmes' primary role during his four seasons in New York. Despite recording a career-high two interceptions last season, Holmes was eventually moved to special teams. With Phillips now the expected starting nickel, Holmes may not play on defense unless there are injuries.
Holmes was re-signed to a one-year deal in March, but only $50,000 of his contract is guaranteed, making it easy for the Giants to move on from him. Special teams may be the saving grace for Holmes to stay on the team, but his spot on defense now belongs to Phillips.
