3 Pass Rushers Jets Must Sign After Heartbreaking Jermaine Johnson News
By Colin Chatto
On Monday, the New York Jets announced that young pass rusher Jermaine Johnson has suffered a torn Achilles against the Tennessee Titans. A brutal loss for the Jets, who are getting thinner by the minute at the edge position. Johnson was coming off a 7.5-sack season for New York and looked to be a key part in the pass rush coming into the 2024 season.
With the Haason Reddick saga continuing into week 3, it may be time for the Jets to look for outside help to provide much-needed depth. Will McDonald IV had a massive game in Tennessee leading the way with three sacks, but it is going to be crucial to find insurance to help this defense down the stretch.
Here are three potential pass rushers the Jets should look into ahead of Thursday nights game against the New England Patriots:
Anthony Barr
The four-time Pro Bowler re-joined the Minnesota Vikings in 2023 after the injury bug hit the defensive front. Barr did not fill up the stat column in the four games last season, but he has 18.5 career sacks and contributes in pass coverage.
Shaq Lawson
Lawson has had a respectable career primarily with the Buffalo Bills where he recorded 21 sacks in six years. In 2021, he started seven games with the Jets and had five tackles for loss.
Randy Gregory
Another vital option, Gregory started the 2023 season with the Denver Broncos and finished the season with the San Francisco 49ers where he totaled six tackles for loss. With 22 career sacks, he has the ability to fill right in at the edge.
