On Tuesday Night, the offseason edition of Hard Knocks with the New York Giants came to a close and the takeaways are overwhelmingly positive. The show gave us unprecedented access to how a front office operates and the inner workings of the NFL. The show had great moments, but, there are a few storylines that went notably under the radar.

The Darren Waller Retirement

The rumors swirled about the possibility that Darren Waller may announce his retirement all offseason. There must have been plenty of discussions about the situation and potential replacement options for Waller.

The Giants clearly knew this was a strong possibility as they signed Jack Stoll and Chris Manhertz while drafting Theo Johnson. Yet, the show failed to touch upon this saga, much to the disappointment of Giants fans.

The Offensive and Defensive Coordinator Situation

The biggest storyline this off-season besides Saquon Barkley's free agency was the divorce between Brian Daboll and Wink Martindale. Given that the Giants' strong suit was their defense, losing Martindale was shocking, especially as reports came out about the disagreements behind the scenes.

The only time this issue was touched on was when Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen talked about offering the job to Shane Bowen but, this issue should have been addressed further.

On the offensive side of the football, there is a clear divide between Brian Daboll and Mike Kafka. The Giants OC interviewed for head coaching jobs, which was no issue, but, he also tried to interview for offensive coordinator jobs which the Giants denied. During the show, Kafka was hardly mentioned or shown and when the Giants went through the draft, the staff didn't ask for his input on any decisions.

Adoree' Jackson's Free Agency

In the final episode, the Giants stated that cornerback was one of the needs they had circled heading into the NFL Draft. During the free agency episode, the Giants talked about most of their pending free agents but Adoree' Jackson was never mentioned. Considering both the need for cornerbacks and the familiarity with the player, the Giants not even considering the move came as a shock.

The offseason has officially reached its close as the Hard Knocks show will no longer reveal any hidden details from the spring. The Giants left the offseason with some true difference-makers in Malik Nabers, Brian Burns, Jermaine Eluemunor, and Jon Runyan Jr. While the Giants lost some big names on paper, there are plenty of reasons to feel optimistic about the upcoming season.
