Matt Breida

The Giants lost their best offensive weapon and one of the best running backs in the league in free agency. Not retaining Saquon Barkley may have made financial sense but the Giants haven't replaced him yet.

Signing Devin Singletary certainly helps but he is not a true three-down back like Barkley. They will need to add more depth to their running back room and considering the lack of elite options on the market, it may be wiser to bring back a trusted hand.

Matt Breida was fine as an RB2 last season, but he was also playing behind Barkley, not getting too many touches. In two seasons with the Giants, he has a total of 109 rushes, 371 yards, (3.4 Y/A), and two scores. Those are not necessarily eye-popping stats.

However, he is trusted by the organization and Brian Daboll specifically, who brought him to New York from Buffalo.

Breida isn't going to change the fate of your organization but he can do a little bit of everything and doesn't make many mistakes. He is an experienced veteran, never fumbles and can be utilized in the passing game and as a blocker.

Assuming that there aren't any lucrative offers coming in for Breida, it makes some sense to bring a familiar face who knows the team and the system. For a one-year minimum deal, it's not the worst option the Giants can have in their rushing rotation.
