3 Former Jets Who Will Fail Miserably With Their New Teams After Free Agency
3. DT Quinton Jefferson
Following a brief stop with the Jets, veteran defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson left New York to join the Cleveland Browns on a one-year contract. His move to Cleveland marks the fifth NFL franchise that Jefferson will play with since 2020.
Jefferson's campaign with the Jets was a mixed bag, to say the least. Although he recorded a career-high 6.0 sacks, the ex-Maryland Terrapin finished with his fewest solo tackles (13) since 2017 and couldn't do much to stop opposing rushers, tallying a 38.7 run-defense grade — the 15th-worst mark among 137 eligible interior defenders on PFF.
The Browns had one of the best run defenses last season, but just because Jefferson is joining the unit doesn't mean he'll bounce back. He did miss the final three games of the year due to multiple groin tears and now that he turns 31 at the end of March, it remains to be seen if he can bounce back from those injuries.
Before the 2023 season, Jefferson hadn't missed a game since 2019. Time will tell if his latest injury scare was a fluke or if it's a sign of an oncoming decline.
