New York Yankees: Wild Card Series Preview/Predictions
It is official, the New York Yankees will be playing the Cleveland Indians in the Wild Card Series, can they win the new best-of-three series?
The New York Yankees entered the 2020 MLB Season with expectations of winning their 28th World Series title. Now, they’ll enter the newly expanded postseason as the fifth seed out of eight, facing an Indians team with a pitcher fresh off a Triple Crown title, and the undoubted AL Cy Young.
The Indians finished the 2020 season with a record of 35-25, the Yankees went 33-27. However, the Yankees battled a plethora of injuries throughout the season that gave them a difficult path to the postseason. Towards the end of the shortened season, the Yankees got healthy once again and showed flashes of being the team everyone thought they could be.
The Yankees went on a 10-game winning streak in September, but then followed it up with a 2-6 record in their last eight games. So the question is; can the Yankees get the job done?
In those last eight games, the Yankees were outscored 53-35 and failed to show that they could make a deep run in the postseason. Also, had it not been for an Orioles win over the Blue Jays on Sunday, the Yankees would be the eight-seed and would be playing a Rays team they went 2-8 against this season.
Luckily for the Yankees, that is not the case, but if they beat the Indians in the first round, they will likely have to play the Rays anyway.
So without further ado, let’s take a look at the Yankees first-round matchup, and give our predictions as well.
