New York Giants assessment: Much need for improvement
By Daniel Milea
New York Giants offense
QB: Daniel Jones (72) — Not confident here … we’ll get to him later.
WR: Golden Tate (84), Sterling Shepard (84), & Darius Slayton (81) make for a good WR corps … if they were numbers 2,3 & 4. They need a No. 1 receiver and Golden Tate is at the back-end of his career. I think the ratings for Shepard and Slayton are high.
RB: Saquon Barkley (90) is possibly the BEST running back in the league, at least in the top 5. ‘Nuff said
TE: Evan Engram (90) — I’m good here. Engram is a great receiving TE with 4.4 speed. Has some durability issues but with Kaden Smith (70) and Levine Toilolo (69) as backups, this position is pretty solid. All with good size, but need more upper body strength.
LT: Nate Solder (69) — I feel he was WAY overpaid when he was signed. They missed out because they low-balled Andrew Norwell(85) who is younger and better. Then because they lost on Norwell, they panicked and overpaid to get the next best guy that year. Unfortunately, Nate hasn’t exactly played up to his standard.
Hopefully he has a comeback year. However, I do believe his rating should be in the mid-70s. BUT he has opted out of the season due to concerns about the virus outbreak and rookie Andrew Thomas(unrated) will probably get the start at Left Tackle this year.
LG: Will Hernandez (79) — I’m OK with Will. He’s still young and improving. A friend of mine saw him at Giants training camp and says he liked what he saw in Will and that he looks like a house on the line. That’s a good offensive lineman description to me!
C: Spencer Pulley (67) — Absolutely TERRIBLE! He’s never been rated high on any charts or listings and I haven’t been impressed. This should have been addressed in last year’s draft with Garrett Bradbury.
RG: Kevin Zeitler (85) — One of the best in the league. No qualms about getting him for Olivier Vernon.
RT: Cameron Fleming (67) — Not great. Need help here. Hopefully, in a normal season with no opt outs, Andrew Thomas would fill this gap and Nate Solder would be at Left Tackle.
