Game One

Philadelphia Phillies @ New York Yankees

Jake Arrieta vs. Gerrit Cole

Monday, August 3rd, 7:05 pm

In game one, the Yankees will throw Gerrit Cole out on the mound to make his third start as a member of the Yankees. Cole has been on fire in his first two starts as a Yankee, holding a 2-0 record, 3.09 ERA, and has gone 11.2 innings in his two starts (the first start was cut short due to rain.)

Cole has collected 12 total strikeouts and has allowed only three walks and five hits, that’s pretty dang good and going up against a Phillies team that lost two of three against the Marlins, there’s no reason to believe he will slow down one bit on Monday night.

As for the Phillies, they’ll be throwing former Cy Young and World Series Champion, Jake Arrieta out on the mound. Arrieta had a rough season in 2019 in his second season with the Phillies as he held an 8-8 record with an ERA of 4.64.

In his first start of the season, Arrieta will be challenged, to say the least, as he will be forced to go up against Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Sanchez, Gleyber Torres, Gary Sanchez, and many more.

The question is, will he be able to hold his own and potentially help the Phillies get their second win of the year?

Prediction: Yankees win 6-1

In game one I see the Yankees completely dominating the Phillies. Gerrit Cole has been on fire to start his career as a Yankee, and I don’t see any reason why that would change against a Phillies team who lost two of three to the Miami Marlins.

As for the Yankees bats, they have scored an average of 5.8 runs per nine-inning game, and 5.625 runs per game overall. I think Aaron Judge will continue to dominate, and the Yankees will take game one from the Phillies in dominant fashion.
