New York Yankees: Orioles Series Preview/Predictions
Game Two
New York Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles
J.A. Happ vs. John Means
Thursday, July 30th, 7:30 pm
In game two J.A. Happ will be making his first start of the 2020 MLB Season, against the Baltimore Orioles. 2019 certainly was not Happ’s best season as he went 12-8 with a 4.91 ERA while averaging just north of five innings per appearance.
In 2020, Happ is hoping to improve on his rough 2019 campaign, and there is no better opponent to start this against, than the Baltimore Orioles. Although the Orioles are 2-1 at this moment in time, they are much worse than their record indicates.
The Orioles went 54-108 in 2019 and going into 2020, they didn’t improve much at all, and they might’ve actually gotten worse. This being said, Happ has a good chance to start his 2020 season on a high note.

As for the Orioles, they will be putting John Means on the bump who in 2019 went 3-7 with a 6.45 ERA, while averaging less than five innings per start. This being said, if the Yankees get five innings out of Happ, they might be in a better position than the Orioles in game two.
Prediction: Yankees win 9-5
You might think I’m crazy with that 9-5 prediction, but the Yankees could legitimately get to double digits in game two. John Means was horrendous in 2019, and the fact that he averaged less than five innings per start, is very worrisome for the Orioles but is great news for the Yankees.
The Yankees could very well pour on several runs in the first two-three innings and knock Means out of the game before the fourth even gets underway. If that is the case, the Yankees would be in a fantastic position because I imagine they will do something similar on Wednesday night with Asher Wojciechowski starting.
If they knock Wojciechowski out of the game and get to the bullpen early, and then do the same the next night against John Means, the Orioles will be short-staffed which plays into the Yankees’ favor.
