Buffalo Bills: Predicting the roster for the 2020 Season
Quarterbacks
Quarterbacks: Josh Allen, Matt Barkley, Jake Fromm
Cuts: Davis Webb
Everyone knows the Bills franchise quarterback is Josh Allen, and the Bills will be hoping he continues to progress this year as he did from his rookie season to his sophomore season.
With the concern of COVID-19 this year, the backup quarterback position becomes vital. If the Bills lose Josh Allen for any amount of time, they want to feel confident in the quarterback they are putting on the field.
They will have a competition between Barkley and the rookie, Jake Fromm. The Bills like the intelligence and football IQ in Fromm, but like the experience in Barkley. Barkley has also developed a good relationship with Josh Allen and the Bills coaches, and he has proven that he can run the offense in the absence of Josh Allen.
Although it’s unusual for teams to keep three quarterbacks, without a rookie minicamp and enough preseason games, I don’t expect the Bills to cut Barkley and hand the backup quarterback position to Fromm.
It will be hard for Fromm to learn the playbook and have a total grasp on the offense in such limited time. I don’t believe the Bills would want to lose Fromm either, so I expect them to keep all three. It will be interesting to see if Josh Allen can’t play in a game, which quarterback Buffalo would turn to.
