The 2020 MLB Season is going to be unlike any we have ever seen, and now the New York Yankees’ schedule has been released for the 60-game season.

The New York Yankees enter the 2020 MLB Season as the co-favorites to win the World Series, alongside the Los Angeles Dodgers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 MLB Season has been shortened to 60 games, as opposed to the typical 162 games.

Those 60 games appear to heavily favor the Yankees as their schedule isn’t difficult, really at all.

Yankees’ 2020 opponents:

  • Washington Nationals (three games)
    • 93-69 2019 record, 2019 World Series Champions
    • Did not play the Yankees in 2019
  • Philadelphia Phillies (four games)
    • 81-81 2019 record, missed postseason
    • Did not play the Yankees in 2019
    • Former Yankees manager is Phillies’ new manager, also added Didi Gregorius
  • Boston Red Sox (10 games)
    • 84-78 2019 record, missed postseason
    • Yankees went 14-5 against the Red Sox in 2019
    • Red Sox lost Mookie Betts and David Price during the offseason
  • Baltimore Orioles (10 games)
    • 54-109 2019 record, missed postseason
    • Yankees went 17-2 against Orioles in 2019
  • Tampa Bay Rays (10 games)
    • 96-66 2019 record, lost to Astros in ALDS
    • Yankees went 12-7 against Rays in 2019
  • Atlanta Braves (four games)
    • 97-65 2019 record, won NL East, lost to Cardinals in NLDS
    • Did not play Yankees in 2019
  • New York Mets (six games)
    • 86-76 2019 record, missed postseason
    • Yankees went 2-2 against Mets in 2019
  • Toronto Blue Jays (10 games)
    • 67-95 2019 record, missed postseason
    • Yankees went 11-8 against Blue Jays in 2019
  • Miami Marlins (three games)
    • 57-105 2019 record, missed postseason
    • Did not play Yankees in 2019

The Yankees play nine total opponents over the course of the 2020 MLB Season, in 2019 they held a record of 56-24 against these nine opponents. That’s a win percentage of 70%, if the Yankees were to hold a 70% win percentage in 2020, they would finish with a record of 42-18, this is the equivalent to a record of 113.4-48.6 in a typical 162 game season.

That being said, if this is the case, the Yankees would be in a very good position heading into the 2020 postseason. However, I believe the Yankees have their sights set higher than a 42-18 record.

More from New York Yankees

The four games against the Phillies are all winnable, the 10 games against the Red Sox should be very favorable, the 20 combined games against the Orioles and Blue Jays are all winnable, the 13 combined games against the Rays and Nationals will be the most difficult games, the 10 combined games against the Braves and Mets will be favorable, and the three games against the Marlins should all be winnable.

The only big competition for the Yankees in 2020 will be the Tampa Bay Rays and the reigning World Series Champion, Washington Nationals. Other than potentially a couple of these games, the Yankees will likely be favored in every single other game they play in 2020, which goes to show you just how good they could be.
