C.J. Mosley says New York Jets trade of Jamal Adams would be a “crazy move”
By Ed Stein
Last season New York Jets fans got to see safety Jamal Adams and middle linebacker C.J. Mosley play together for five quarters. Rumors have surfaced that Adams is on the trade block again. Mosley does not agree with them.
In the spring of 2019, then New York Jets General Manager Mike Maccagnon made a huge splash in free agency. His big pickup on defense was C.J. Mosley. Maccagnon lured the middle linebacker away from Baltimore with a five-year, $85M contract. Gang Green fans were excited to see how their defense would fare when Mosley teamed up with Jamal Adams.
The combination lasted all of five quarters before Mosley’s season ended in Week 2 against New England, with a core muscle injury. Batman and Robin would have to wait until 2020 to fight opposing offenses. A few things happened between then and now. The most important of which had to do with Adams’ name popping up at last season’s trade deadline.
Those rumors hurt the Lewisville, TX native. Since joining Gang Green in 2017, Adams has done his best on and off the field to represent the New York Jets, including his recruitment of other players to join the organization. It took meetings with both GM Joe Douglas and Head Coach Adam Gase to settle down the star safety’s ire.
Gang Green is coming up on a “pass or play” option with Adams. If they wanted, this could be his last season in New York. 2020 is the fourth year of his rookie contract, and the Jets could part ways with him after the season and have no cap consequences for 2021.
The sides, however, have been talking extension. Until Adams gets one, he isn’t participating in team activities (as limited as they are with the coronavirus). It’s probably the best reason teams keep calling Douglas for a trade, despite the GM’s claim that Adams isn’t for sale. Even so, the rumors persist.
Mosley is anxious to play with Adams. He told Rich Cimini of ESPN that he never believed any of the trade rumors. saying if the New York Jets traded Adams, “That would be a crazy move.” The MLB elaborated.
"“First of all, he’s one of the leaders on the team… He brings that extra energy whether guys want it or not. Sometimes you might be tired or not feeling good, but as soon as he steps on the field, you’re going to hear that voice and he’ll be flying around. To have that presence in the secondary, a guy that can make plays in the passing game and also plays in the backfield — in the box — that’s always exciting. “More from New York JetsCaesars New York Promo Code: Win $250 Bonus GUARANTEED on ANY Bet!New York Jets: It’s Time to Move on from Sam DarnoldHow Adam Gase and Joe Judge Can Succeed in 2020New York Jets Still have Elite Talent in Running Back Le’Veon BellNew York Jets: C.J. Every football team needs a player with Adams’ leadership abilities. It would be hard to find many athletes in any sport who represent their team with the same enthusiasm that Jamal Adams reps the Jets. Then there is his on-field performance; three seasons, 46 games, 273 tackles, 28 for loss, 23 quarterback hits, and six forced fumbles, two Pro-Bowl games, and an All-Pro selection.
Gang Green fans agree with Mosley, dealing away Adams would be crazy.
