What’s best for the franchise

Bringing in a new general manager now who is unfamiliar with the New York Knicks situation, while Rose is an inexperienced president, could be a recipe for a worse situation. Regardless of Perry’s uneven track record, he provides some organizational consistency.

To be honest, if a new GM walked through the doors of Madison Square Garden and struck out on the draft or made poor free agent signings in his first year, New York Knicks fans would short circuit.

People would be ready to run down to the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street, with their pitchforks and torches to protest (we really can sometimes be a ruthless fanbase). Perry is a safer bet for Rose than any other option at this time. Keeping Scott Perry around is not the end of the world. It gives both the team and fanbase continuity in the face of so much change and uncertainty.

Instead, this decision should give fans some comfort to know that for once, an executive is doing their due diligence to make the franchise better. Maybe, after 20 years of suffering, NYK fans can finally witness a competently run team. Positive on-court results should follow.
