New York Jets: GM Joe Douglas hits home run in first Gang Green draft
New York Jets General Manager, Joe Douglas, had a great first draft that should leave fans incredibly optimistic.
The only thing disappointing about New York Jets General Manager Joe Douglas’ first draft is that this isn’t his second draft. The Jets fired former GM Mike Maccagnan last April, weeks after he conducted his fifth Jets draft. Following a disconnect with Gang Green Head Coach Adam Gase during the draft, Owner Christopher Johnson decided to part ways.
Joe Douglas had a history with Gase and was the choice to be the next GM. His era began with a roster he had no part of constructing. That has started to change. The “JD Era” began with overhauls of the offensive line and cornerback positions in free agency. Underperforming veterans were let go, and a new wave of players was brought in.
Leading up to his first draft running the New York Jets, Douglas seemed to have a good handle on both what he wanted to accomplish and the talent available to do so. He knocked it out of the park this weekend.
The general manager orchestrated three trades and selected eight players in this draft that left Jets fans excited. Maybe fans are just happy to see football-related activities considering COVID-19 is still affecting everyday lives. Either way, New York Jets fans haven’t felt this good about a draft in quite some time. Douglas did an outstanding job filling holes on the roster with impact players.
After a successful off-season, let’s take a look at each pick from every round.
