There may be no baseball now, but when it does come back there are several New York Yankees who are ready to have big seasons.

When Major League Baseball resumes, the New York Yankees will enter the season with high expectations. Not only from themselves but also from their fans and the media. The addition of star pitcher Gerritt Cole in the offseason makes the Bronx Bombers early favorites to win the American League pennant in 2020.

With several key players already on the injured list, the Yankees are going to need other players to once again step up and carry the load until everyone’s healthy again. There are a few players who are expected to have big years, either coming off strong seasons in 2019 or players in the prime years of their career.

Last season, the New York Yankees led the Majors in a few stats they didn’t want to. Per Sportrac, they had 30 different players on the injured list at one time or another. That led to another all-time record of 2,996 man-games lost. As an aside, the Bombers paid $96.6M to players who were out of action.

All those injuries led to opportunities. To keep the Yanks in contention, unexpected players were forced to step up in a huge way. Guys such as Gio Urshela, Cameron Maybin and Mike Tauchman came out of nowhere to lead the Bombers, in the absence of their stars. This season, the Bombers will need more of the same thing.

These are a few players I expect to have huge seasons for the New York Yankees in 2020 as well as a few dark horse candidates I expect to step up. They’ll have to if the Bombers are to fill their lofty expectations.
